Nollywood for Prince james Uche

By Emeka Rollas

The National Cartaker Committee Chairman of Actors Guild of Nigeria Mr Steve Eboh popularly known as AJEBOH has thanked Nollywood stakeholders for inaugurating a ‘Save a Soul’ campaign to raise funds for ailing actors.

The campaign was organised by Filmmakers Welfare Organisation of Nigeria, FWON, in collaboration with Brekete Family, a popular radio reality show that addresses humanitarian and other issues, which took place in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja saw a large mass of movie producers, actors, fans and other entertainment stakeholders.

The rally which took off from the Unity Fountain with campaigners displaying placards with inscriptions: ‘Give money to save our Nollywood stars’, ‘Save James Uche from kidney problem’.

Mr Steve Eboh Chairman of AGN National Caretaker committee who led Elder Bruno Iwuoha, Francis Duru Agility Onwurah Chairman of Abuja chapter, Zenith Abubakar Sokoto state chairman and other actors /Actresses for the event opined that it is clear that the immediate past Guild authorities did not put down any structure to sustain the Guild which led to going cap in hand begging for funds to treat her own. He congratulates Mr Sunday Awoji National President of FWON for such an initiative.

The rally was to raise funds for the medical treatment of two Nollywood veteran actors: Prince James Uche and Romanus Amunta, popularly known as Natty..

“Uche is presently hospitalised in Lagos due to kidney related ailment and urgently needs to be taken to India for a transplant. Amunta is also critically down with paralysis in Enugu State,” Awoji added, noting that medical experts say the duo need about N15 million to secure adequate medical treatment.

Mr Steve Eboh while thanking all who took time out to participate in the event adviced all members of AGN to embrace the Caretaker committee for peace to reign in AGN. He stressed that Emeka Ike has been tormenting the Association with a court judgment that he Emeka ike is not a beneficiary for over one year now and as such use it to hold the progress of the Association down.

Meanwhile the committee arose from its first meeting at Harvesters Hotel in Surulere Lagos on Saturday 25th of june 2016 appointed an audit firm VINCENT ANWI and CO of 129 Okota Road Atinuke Complex to audit all bank accounts of AGN in line with section seven of the judgement as delivered by Justice J.T .TSOHO on 16th of march 2016.

The committee wants to put the records straight: The emergence of this committee is the best thing to happen to AGN because its mandate is just to resuscitate AGN and conduct elections. Anybody who wants to cast aspersions on the committee should first of all lay hands on the copy of the judgment read, digest it, if possible get a sound lawyer to interpret it. We are not here to thread words with anybody or to fight anybody but to keep peace in AGN and avoid any party from holding AGN to ransom. We read in the daily vanguard of 25th june 2016 where Mr Abubakar Yakubu claimed that that the National is still in charge. He cited the case of Governor Wike as example of a case where a defendant was defeated in a lower court and he remained in power until the Appeal and Supreme Court heard his case and gave final judgment. Regretably, its Abubakar’s judicial ignorance. Election matters are matters of tribunal which have judicial time table straight from its original legislature. Let me also use the same Gov Wike case study for Abubakar Yakubu: The 22 L.G.A chairmen who were elected during the last administration in River state had challenged their sack by the incumbent governor of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike, before a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harourt, Rivers State but lost in the case, they are already in appeal court but doing that out of office. Why didn’t they stay in their offices till the appeal is heard?

It will be contempt of court for AGN Chairmen under Ibinabo Fiberesima to hold any meeting in Calabar as presently rumored around AGN circles. We do not know if their meeting in Calabar would save the Guild or just for personal and selfish reasons. The National Caretaker committee has come to stay. We would also not hesitate to work within the ambit of the law to stop any gathering under the guise of Chairmen meeting anywhere. We have copies of the judgment and copies of rulling on the stay of execution as filed by Ibinabo’s lawyer.

The audit will be extended to all the state chapters as well and that is why some state chapter chairmen are ganging up against the committee. They have never accounted to anybody. We want to let them know that’s it’s no longer business as usual. The time of sharing campaign money is over.

We have equally reached out to St Maradonna Johnson for a possible truce. This is because Emeka Ike is not in the picture at all. When we are done with resuscitating the Guild we then put Emeka Ike where he belongs.
