Lancelot Imasuen's ‘Nollywood Babylon’ premières in Montreal

“NOLLYWOOD Babylon” a film by top Nollywood director, Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen has been premiered in Canada .
The film,” a documentary about the phenomenon behind the new attraction “Nollywood” had the world premiere during the Festival du Cinema de Montreal .

The hardworking director also took the opportunity of his visit to the country to visit the Nigerian High Commission there, where he met with the High Commissioner, Professor Iyorwuese Hagher, who he had fruitful discussions with, over issues that concern the upgrading of Nollywood.

He also presented the High Commissioner with a copy of one of the works, titled “brutal heart” which he described as his patriotic effort to aid the cutting down on the piracy plague in Nollywood.
He described the issue of piracy as a major concern and one of the reasons he decided to pay the courtesy visit to the commission.

He also advocated the need for a North American Nollywood film festival to be hosted in Ottawa annually to promote Nigerian movies which according to him will go a long way in showcasing a positive image of the country and her heritage which will in turn create the avenue to introduce Nigeria as a viable tourist destination.
Mr. Imasuen also solicited the co-operation of the high commission in assisting production outfits in Canada with programmes aimed at promotion the arts, especially in the area of visa procurement for Nigerian artistes.
The high commissioner agreed on the need to tackle piracy which is on the increase and supported the idea of setting up a Nigerian movie distribution network that will cater for the distribution to all the relevant bodies who intend to engage in legitimate business through retail or rental outlets.

He also supported the idea of hosting an annual Nollywood North American festival, (NNAF) IN Canada to commence in April 2009.
