Gov. Nasir El-Rufai Appoints Blind Man as 'Special Assistant'
Governor Nasir El-Rufai, of Kaduna State, has on Wednesday appointed a Special Assistant on Persons with Disability, Salisu, apparently in reaction to the threat by beggars in the state to bring down his government.
According to a press statement issued by his media aide, Mr Samuel Aruwan, in Kaduna on Wednesday, Salisu, who hails from Sabon Gari, Zaria, holds a Diploma in Special Education from the Kaduna Polytechnic and another Diploma in Guidance and Counselling from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai stated that his government has the responsibility of caring for every section of the society including physically challenged people while promising to train people that are willing to acquire skills.
“We have a responsibility to every section of our society, including the physically-challenged. Our duty is to train every willing person to acquire the skills that can help them be productively engaged,” he said.
He also added that, “We will not condemn anyone to the misery of begging; our rehabilitation centres will be retooled to impart viable skills and we shall have a micro-credit scheme to assist people to start-up their small businesses after undergoing training.”
