Movie Producers Should Stop Depending on Government…Fidelis Duker

Nollywood movie producer and founder of the Abuja International Film Festival, Fidelis Duker, has expressed his dissatisfaction on the way movie producers neglect the idea of film festivals and rather chose to produce and dump films in the market.

According to him, festivals is one of the major way or platforms by which movie producers can showcase their works and get that needful exposure than just doing it the conventional of marketing.

He further noted that the dependency on government for assistance is too much and should be limited as government investment in the industry should just be about 30%.

The founder of the Abuja International Film festival stated that government only needs to provide the infrastructure and enabling environment to practice while practitioners should begin to see themselves as businessmen and entrepreneurs.

“I think it's high time we begin to see the industry from a business perspective. It is a big global business. There's a need for people to begin to see themselves as businessmen and entrepreneurs. The dependency on government should be limited. Government involvement in films should be less than 30% whereby it provides the infrastructure and enabling environment to practice. With that, the industry will lessen its grip on government assistance,” he said.
