Ghanaians Honour Yvonne Nelson After ‘Dumsor’ Protest
Though some Nigerians may see Yvonne Nelson as a controversial actress from Ghana, but to those in her country, she is a brave woman who can be likened to the iconic Yaa Asantewaa, who led the Ashanti rebellion known as the War of the Golden Stool or The Yaa Asantewaa war against the British colonialism in 1900.
Last week, the Ghanaian actress led a peaceful protest in her country to kick against the incessant cut in power supply popularly called 'dumsor'.
Several people turned up for the event, which was also attended by some notable faces in West Africa country.
After the protest, many Ghanaians commended Yvonne for standing against the government. She was then likened to Yaa Asantewaa, which the actress has described as a huge honour.
She told Pulse Ghana that, “Yaa Asantewaa is a huge name and it's really humbling that anyone would call me by that name. As a matter of fact, I love it. Let me put it in there Yvonne Yaa Asantewaa Nelson so that's like my new name right now.”
