Ban on Alcoholic Advertisements May Affect John Dumelo, Others
With latest reports making the rounds in Ghana about celebrity endorsement on alcoholic beverages in the country, some celebs who have been eying various brands in country will need to have a rethink as it will no longer be accepted.
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) recently has explained that the ban on celebrities from advertising alcoholic beverages is an adherence to a World Health Organization (WHO) policy.
Explaining the reasons for the ban, the Deputy Chief Executive for Food and Drugs Authority, John Odame Darkwa, in 'Adom Entertainment Hall' on Adom FM, says as member of the WHO, FDA has been tasked to ensure sanity in the advertising industry in Ghana.
John said the minors in the society constitute the major fans of these celebrities and are easily convinced to practice what their icons do or say so celebrity endorsement for alcoholic beverages and liquor is dangerous to such kids.
“It is unfortunate that some people see the directive as a way to sabotage celebrities in Ghana. No, this is purely a public health concern,” he noted.
Recall that top Ghanaian actors, John Dumelo, Adjetey Anang and Nollywood actor, Seun Akindele, were officially announced as the ambassadors for Kasaprenko Limited, the producers of Alomo Bitters. With this development in the country, fans begin to imagine what will be the fate of the contract signed by the two Ghanaian actors.
