We Neglected OJB Out Of Fear—MI

Nigerian rapper, Jude Abaga aka M.I has explained why some entertainers in the Nigerian showbiz industry did not fully rally round in raising money for the treatment of ace music producer, OJB Jezreel, when he needed money to undergo a kidney treatment abroad.

It would be recalled that it took the intervention of the Rivers States governor, Rotimi Amaechi, to enable OJB travel to India to facilitate the treatment.

Before he underwent the transplant, it was alleged that his colleagues in the music industry neglected him and almost turned his travail into publicity stunts. Some celebs were announcing donations, which those close to the then ailing OJB debunked.

But recently speaking on the issue in a chat with My Africa Podcast, MI said artistes were running around trying to raise money for OJB when he was ill. The rapper also said he was broke during the period, adding that there was nothing on him then.

MI stated that what shocked him was when Normoreloss, a singer, started to allegedly disclosed names of those failed to render any help to OJB.

The rapper noted that even a celebrity donor was embarrassed when his donation of N100,000 was made public, when another star was announced to have donated N5million.

“Already, everybody was in that N100,000 category, of which there was maybe 20, 30 people. Automatically, it's like 'Yo, I'm gonna keep my N100,000, I'm not trying to be embarrassed. On the second hand, you have artistes, like myself, who were just confused, if we were to go, what would have happened, what would we see, because it had become a media thing,” MI said.
