Popular comedian, Gordons got UNILAG students misty-eyed last Thursday as he narrated his inspiring journey to success while performing at the Lagos finale of Amstel Malta Showtime concert drama “The Rush”.

The former DC Envoys star, who has risen to become one of Nigeria's most decorated comedians told guests “Education does not guarantee success. In spite of all you read and who you want to be, if you really want to be successful you need to put to work your talent and it's totally free… Some people were born with silver spoon, some with golden spoon but I was born with nothing, still I helped myself through university... but today I don't drive what I drive by my degree neither am I staying where I stay by my degree, I got it all by putting my talent to work”.

He also revealed he is the first Nigerian comedian to feature on CNN.

The ace-comedian who became the breadwinner of his family at the young age of 12, fishing and trading to make ends meet, started his career in 1992 but didn't hit any major break until 2005 when he relocated to Lagos and got the opportunity of hosting a major gospel concert “The Experience”. Ever since he has become a household name having performed at a lot of A-List events.

“Gordon's success story is really inspirational and very reflective of Amstel Malta's Journey to Success campaign on which this concert drama is based”, commented Amstel Malta Brand Manager, Hannatu Ageni-Yusuf.

“A lot of the successful personalities we know achieved success without having to use a university degree. Our brand ambassadors Genevieve Nnaji and Mikel Obi are also perfect examples, who are widely celebrated success stories today. As a brand, we will keep encouraging hard workers like Gordons who are determined to attain success no matter the challenges they face” she added.

Present at the event were other celeb features Sound Sultan, Phyno, Ice Nweke, red carpet host, Vonne Vixen and Winner of the Best male actor award of the Amstel Malta sponsored AMVCA, Tope Tedela amongst others.

“The Rush”, which featured various artistic displays by ballerinas, fire-eaters, singers, actors, jugglers, dancers, rappers, instrumentalists, comedians, all to tell a young man's journey to success will certainly remain one of the best expression of arts and theatrics to be seen in this part of the world for a long while to come.
