Genevieve Is One Of Africa's Most Powerful Actresses--Int'l Magazine

An international magazine has named Nigeria's Genevieve Nnaji as one of Africa's most powerful actresses, who has done well for herself, the film industry and Nigeria in particular and Africa as a whole.

Elle Magazine's International Superstars included Genny, as she is fondly called, in the 'Next Big Crossover Acts list it released recently.

Genny was appreciated for putting Nollywood, which was described as Nigeria's Hollywood, on the world map, through her achievements and acting skills.

Also named in the list is Bollywood star and former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai amongst others.

Genevieve was once described as the 'Julia Roberts of Africa', who also happens to have reportedly inspired Genevieve.

Excerpts from the magazine:

“One of the most powerful actresses working in Africa, Nnaji began her career at age eight, and has been constantly working in commercials and movies ever since. She's credited with putting Nollywood, Nigeria's Hollywood, on the map. In 2005 she was awarded Best Actress at the inaugural African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), and used her fame to launch her clothing line, St. Genevieve, in 2008 with the proceeds from sales supporting orphanages. And she has the Oprah seal of approval—in 2009 Nnaji was profiled on an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, with the host referring to her as one of the most popular people around the world and the "Julia Roberts of Africa."

The list also features former Miss World and Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai, English singer Pixie Lott and Mexican pop star Anahi.
