The organizers of the first ever Ikenga Movie Awards in Nigeria have announced the shift of the venue of the epoch showbiz event from the South East to the commercial capital of Nigeria, Lagos.
The shift in venue for the event scheduled to come up in the first quarter of 2008 was arrived at the instance of the organizing committee of the award during the week.

This was based on an overwhelming clamour by stake holders in the industry that the maiden edition of the event should be held in Lagos where majority of the stake holders in the industry reside.

The organizing committee has also commenced shorlisting various artistes and comedians who will perform at the event while finishing touches is being put in place in announcing the final shortlist of the nominees.

The event which will feature over thirty award categories will comprise of all Igbo movies released in the last ten years as well all practitioners in Nollywood of Igbo descents.

According to the Executive Director of Ikenga Movie Awards, Mr Chris Nwandu,the award is being initiated at celebrating the major pioneers in the movie industry as well as revive the act of Igbo movie making which over the years has taken the back sit in Nollywood.

The award will be an annual event.
