Emir Of Bauchi Joins Protests, As President's Mock Coffin IsDisplayed In Benin
The recent protests tagged 'OccupyNigeria' over the fuel subsidy removal by President Jonathan entered its day four yesterday. Protests were held in Bauchi, Ibadan, Benin and Abeokuta.
According to reports available to Nollywoodgists.Com, following the success of the Kano overnight protest in the day three (Wednesday January 4), the people of Bauchi trooped out in their large number to kick against the new government policy on fuel subsidy.
As Nollywoodgists.Com gathered, the Emir of Bauchi also came out to stay on the side of the masses. Addressing the protesters at his palace, he enjoined them to remain peaceful and non-violent while pushing hard their demand(s). He was later reported to have marched with the protesters afterwards.
Elsewhere in Benin City, protesters were reported to have carried about a mock coffin of the President.
According to our source in Benin, many inhabbitants of the accient city came out to say NO to fuel subsidy removal by President Jonathan on New Year's day.
Information at the desk of Nollywoodgists.Com confirms that protests at Ibadan and Abeokuta stalled activities in the two cities.
Speaking to Nollywoodgists.Com over the phone from Kano, one of the organizers of the protest in Kano, Dawisu, confirms that no life was lost in day three of the OccupyNigeria protest.
"We remained peaceful all night until about 1am when the police came to disperse us with teargas. They wanted us to be violent but when we disappointed them, they attacked," Dawisu said.
The labour unions have declared a general strike on Monday January 9 to drive home their demand on government's stand on the new
deregulation policy of the oil sector.
