The man who was accused of killing his wife, Akolade Arowolo is currently under intensive care at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) receiving treatment for complications resulting from his attempted suicide.

According to source, Akolade was said to have drank a substance with high acidic content and had to undergo a surgery because his stomach cannot retain food.

However, the Nigerian Prison Service (NPS) through its Lagos Command Public Relations Officer, Chuks Njoku, has denied the claim that Akolade attempted to take his own life by drinking acid because it was impossible for an inmate to have access to such substance.

“The way the prison is run, I tell you that it is impossible for an inmate to get his hands on any harmful substance. The person in question (Akolade) is quite ill.

We always search inmates before they enter or leave prison so there is no way he could have taken a poisonous substance. It is simply an allergic reaction. He just took something that he is reacting to.

I was with him some days ago and he is responding to treatment,” he said.
