NOLLYWOOD ROLLER - COASTER WEDDINGS

As “Madam Dearest” star actress, Opeyemi Ayeola, goes to the altar today, one is reminded of such occasions in the past involving Nollywood actresses. Few years after the razzmatazz, there were only bitter tales to tell.

Regina Askia was a phenomenon when she broke into Nollywood in the 90s. An ex beauty queen, she brought her good looks unto the silver screen and the producers and directors simply got enthralled.

Later on, she got married to a French man, had kids and before you can say Jack Robinson, the marriage was over. Another romance with an American also met with same fate.

Another actress, a veteran of the stage and the screen, Clarion Chukwurah has also been through some relationships. Before people start getting used to the name, Clarion Chukwurah-Abiola, it was all over. Another relationship later and that too was quickly dispatched with.

Others whose marriages have crashed include Shan George (Nwosisi), Eucharia Anunobi (Ekwu) and Uche (Obi Osotule).

The latest in the series of divorces include Shan George (Nwosisi), Stephanie Okereke, who was married to ace footballer, Chikelue Iloanusi. As usual both started off very well and in fact, when Stephanie was involved in an accident on her way to AMA Award last year, he was by her side all the way until she was fit.

A year later, talks of infidelity characterized the relationship. Stephanie was said to have accused Chikelue of sleeping with her sister and another actress (Anita Hogan), among others. Today, Stephanie and Chikelue have proved irreconcilable and both are living their separate lives.

Other Nollywood relationships are also rumoured to be cracking. One of them is that of Fathia and Saheed Balogun. Their relationship is thought to be going through a hard time though both have always tried to patch things up through public shows of affection.

Two weeks ago, during the AMA Awards in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Fathia was sighted at the venue without her husband, unlike the previous year when both attended. That however may not be out of place because last year, her husband, Saheed, was involved in an accident during which he broke his neck. He has been recuperating somewhere in Ikorodu, Lagos, since then.

In recent weeks Fred Amata and Ibinabo Fiberesima have been in the spotlight over a sizzling romance. That which sounded like a rumour was given vent to when both appeared at the venue of AMA Awards ceremony in Yenagoa, two weeks ago.

Last year, Sammie Okposo, a gospel musician and Stella Damasus Aboderin were in the news for their closeness. Okposo, at that time, said there was no relationship in the offing because Stella is his town's girl.
