By Osagie Alonge

As the Nigerian Idol comes closer and closer to revealing its winner, viewers and fans are filled with excitement and tension as the last wild card has left the competition.

Two contestants Abuja-based George and fan-favourite Tonii were both evicted from the popular TV show reality on Thursday, February 17, 2011 as they recorded the lowest votes. Co-host Anis announced this to the audience in a solemn expression.

Just before leaving, both evictees thrilled the audience with separate renditions from ABBA, as the show payed tribute the Swedish pop music group. George performed 'knowing me, knowing you' while Tonii performed 'lay all your love on me'

Tonii who is one of the three finalists that was brought back through a Wild Card episode not only sings but plays the piano and writes. Her singing prowess has made her a favourite amongst fans and judges, noticeably Audu Maikori.

George, who learnt to play the piano at the age of nine, has had an interest in music right from when he was a child. Things fell into place when he joined the choir and later on decided to go into music professionally. He did go to the university to study Environmental Management and Geography due to family pressure and is thankful he did as he says left him well exposed.

With the upturn of things, the show is now left with seven contestants who are all vying for the top spot which comes with a grand prize of 7.5M Naira, a car and a record deal with Sony BMG.
