British Film Company Eyes Nigeria
SASECOM, producers of the 2006 African political thriller, The Last King of Scotland, is considering allotting the majority of its 25 weeks film shoot schedule for a new movie to Nigeria . The British film company has budgeted millions of dollars for the film which parades an A-List Hollywood talent cast. The story “The Insert” will re-visit some aspects of the Congolese former President Laurent Desirée Kabila's life. In a visit to the Minister for Information and Communications, Dora Akunyili, SASECOM's producer, Serge Cassia, disclosed that the choice of Lagos over Congo was because “shooting in the Congo is virtually impossible for security and infrastructural reasons. As such, we are actively looking at other African venue options where government, the local business community and local film industry support will come into play.” Akunyili assured the film makers of government's support, expressing her hopes that the film will enhance Nigeria 's status and recognition as a place for hosting high profile film productions.
