Operators of the popular photo sharing platform, Instagram, have launched an investigation into a fake account of star actor, Jim Iyke, which was opened on the platform by an impostor. This followed complains made to Instagram over alleged fraudulent activities being carried out by the said user of the fake account.

A statement made available to Nigeriailms.com by the Jim Iyke's publicist, Mitch Ngaman, disclosed that operator of the fictitious JIMIYKEOFFICIAL has been allegedly duping fans of the actor on the internet.

Part of the statement said “the scammer, who was first found out last year, but continued with his game, ran out of luck recently after deceitfully obtaining $350 from an acquaintance of the Nollywood star based in the Netherlands, who subsequently reported it to him.”

Ngaman also stressed in the statement that Jim Iyke's Instagram handle is not “@OFFICIALJIMIYKE but @JIM.IYKE and that the account is not active in contrast with the fake one which is plastered with dozens of stolen photos of Jim Iyke and has over 7000 followers.”

“It would be recalled that a similar incident on Facebook last year led to the arrest of a fraudster in Onitsha who is currently serving a seven-year jail term,” the statement said, while warning fans of the actor and the “public in general never to part with money online on any account as any charity event organized by the star will be widely advertised.”
