The name Oronto Douglas is not new in the play-acting world in Nigeria called Nollywood.

To stakeholders in the movie industry, 'Dr' Oronto Douglas, as he is called in Nollywood instead of 'Mr' Oronto Douglas he is, is already part and parcel of the movie fraternity in Nigeria.

A renowned environmentalist, Oronto Douglas is presently the Special Adviser to President Jonathan on Research, Strategy and Documentations. He has been very instrumental in getting some Nollywood bigwigs support President Jonathan during his campaign.

He was also allegedly reported to be the man that stained the relationship between two big Nollywood hot actresses, Stephanie Okereke and Genevieve Nnaji recently over an alleged cornering of access of the former to the Presidency by the latter.

Speaking on December 30, 2011 at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos at the Actors' Guild of Nigeria (AGN) on a roundtable talk on the removal of fuel subsidy, Oronto Douglas told the gathering that his research has shown that more Nigerians use diesel generators than petrol generators.

In his words, “facts have shown that more Nigerians make use of diesel generators than diesel generators. So, the removal of fuel subsidy by the government will not affect them (Nigerians).”
