VAN VICKER LAUNCHES FOUNDATION
Fans of popular Ghanaian actor Joseph Van Vicker from , US, Canada, United Kingdom, the Caribbean and Ghana as well all gathered together at the Lyron International School, Baatsona, Spintex Ghana On 6th September, 2010 as the 'Van Vicker Foundation' was launched.
Known for the great roles he played in helping alleviate the pain of the victims of the Haiti earthquake, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) ambassador goes further to show that his heart is really large as he launches his foundation with the objective of progressing the lot of the Ghanaian youths through education, sports, music and film making.
The Foundation launch had high power dignitaries such as Mr. Eugene Hogah(Globacom), Ghanaian high-life musician, Pat Thomas, Mr. Eddie Nyarko aka Mr. T(manager of Van Vicker). Ms. Ama Shabby (proprietress of Lyron International School), and Tic -Tac gracing the occasion.
“To whom much is given much is expected, so says the Good Book and I am able to relate to this verse because I have been the recipient of some largesse in several ways in my life and I am happy to contribute my quota to the development of society”, Van told guests at the launching ceremony.
Already, the 'Van Vicker Foundation' has set up a library block where books are supplied for the reading pleasure of kids and coming also from the foundation is a low budgeted movie which will star most of the youth in some respective areas in Ghana.
Speaking on behalf of members of the Van Vicker Foundation in the Diaspora, Ms Dianne Dixon, a US citizen with Jamaican ancestry, said Africans in the Diaspora love African movies and were also in love with children on the continent, hence their decision to fly down to support the foundation. “We have realised that the children need basic things such as books, food and clothes and we are prepared to help”. She advised other African celebrities to give back to society as Van Vicker had done and congratulated him on his decision to support youth development.
