Actress Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi has come a long way as far as the big screen is concerned in Nigeria.

But for some time now, the ebony black actress has been off the screen, owing to other commitments.

However worried over her disappearance on screen, HVP went after her, and recently cornered her at a function, where she offered explanation concerning her sudden disappearance.

According to her, “I have spaced out my acting career, and more so, I do not want to be typecast in movies.”

Funlola featured in Amaka Igwe's “Violated,” a movie in which she featured alongside Richard Mofe Damijo and Joke Silva and the popular AIT produced soap, “Palace”, where she played the lead female character( Kofoworola Baker), and aired in 1998.

She said typecasting her in roles undermines her quest for versatility. Frowning at the way and manner in which producers typecast actors in their movies, Funlola argued that as “an artiste one should be able to show that he or she is versatile in her craft.”

She is one of the cast of the on-going season three of M-Net produced soap, “Tinsel.”

The pretty actress admitted that, even though she has spaced out her acting career in recent times, she was once typecasted in movies. “Yes, I was typecast in some instance.

When you play a particular role and play it very well, every other single script that comes your way follow that line, which is not supposed to be so.” she affirmed.

An acclaimed actress, TV/radio presenter, and show compere, Funlola Aofiyebi_Raimi over the years has maintained a consistent appearance on screen.

With her acting career spanning over a decade, the Lagos State born actress debunked the insinuation that she has given up acting for her programme on radio. “I didn't say I haven't been acting for awhile now.

Rather, I have decided to space out my acting career to enable me attend to other pressing needs.” she explained. Funlola, last year featured in Kunle Afolayan's multiple award winning movie, “Figurine.'

She would not want to describe herself as feminist, following her the role she played in the gender sensitive play “ Vagina Monologues', few years ago.

A certificate holder in drama and Theatre Arts from the Westminster College, England, Funlola is the producer and presenter of Touch of Spice on Star FM
