"Choosing To Remain Local Champions Over Creating Shared Success" – Mary Njoku Tackles Nigerian Industries
Nollywood actress and producer Mary Njoku, has weighed in on the lack of global competition spirit amongst industries in Nigeria.
The movie star pointed out how many industries are pitted against themselves, instead of competing on the global scale, an act she described as "small mindset."
She noted how several industries are focused on pulling down each other, in order to become the 'local champ of a small pie.'
According to her, competition should be solely focused on achieving excellence, while collaboration can come in to complement it.
She wrote:
"Industries that should be competing globally end up stuck in Nigeria vs Nigeria, when it should be Nigeria vs the World. Small mindset. We’re not even big yet but instead of building together, we’re busy tearing each other down. Fighting over who becomes the ‘local champ’ of a small ‘pie’. Why?
If we truly want to grow, we need to shift. Compete on excellence. And where possible, collaborate to create something bigger than ourselves.
“Sometimes the real limitation isn’t the opportunity. It’s the mindset. People see room for expansion, but instead of building something bigger, they shrink it so only they can win. Choosing to remain local champions over creating shared success."
