Uriel Oputa Expresses Displeasure With Trivialization Of Cancer For Content

By Oluwarantimi Oludase

Big Brother Naija star Uriel Oputa, has expressed her disdain and utter displeasure with the trivialization of cancer for content.

The Nigerian Voice recalls that self-acclaimed relationship expert Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, sparked mixed reactions on social media after revealing that she has "stage 4" breast cancer, and appealed to the public for financial assistance to offset the expenses.

Reacting to it, Uriel noted how the claim is relatable since her mum battled it in silent; however, she pointed out the irregularities in Blessing CEO's claim, emphasizing that cancer is a life-threatening issue, and shouldn't be used for content.

Maintaining that cancer is not a joking matter, she disclosed how her mother was able to survive it due to early detection, hence, the importance of verification of such claims, in order not to garner public sympathy for falsehood.

She wrote:
"But if this is not true, then this is actually disturbing. There are certain things you joke about, and there are certain things you don’t touch – this is one of them. No matter the clickbait, no matter the attention, this isn’t okay. As someone whose mother was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, I take this personally; this is not content; this is real life, so if it’s real, I’m sending you strength. But if it’s not. You’re actually not okay for that.”

"Cancer is Not Content.!!! I swear I don’t rate our celebrities.

“This hit Home, because my mother is actually battling this. Thank God we caught it early. If it’s true, God is your strength. Also, if it’s true pls start removing sugar from your Diet…

“Cancer is one of the leading causes of de@th globally. According to the World Health Organization, about 10 million people d!e from cancer every year worldwide. That’s roughly 1 in 6 d£aths. Cancer is not a Joke.”
