Joeboy Expresses Delight In Afrobeats Purge
Nigerian singer, Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, professionally known as Joeboy, has expressed his excitement over the purge that is ongoing in the Afrobeats genre.
The 'Nobody' crooner revealed his delight over the new development, midway into his performance at his sold-out Valentine’s Day show in Lagos.
According to Joeboy, the Afrobeats genre is gradually returning to its original scope, which is devoid of other unnecessary fusion.
He stated that he can feel the drastic change, and his joy knows no bound over the gradual return to the former scope of the Afrobeats genre.
He said:
"Afrobeats right now is going through a purge. We are getting back to the times where real music is going to stay – no more gimmicking and all of that.
“I can feel it already and I am happy that we are getting back to those zones where the music speaks. I thank God for that."
Recall that many music lovers over the years, have bemoaned the change of Afrobeats from its original scope, which saw it infused into several genres, thereby losing its originality. Interestingly, many singers have now put more focus on the original Afrobeats genre, and have been lauded by music lovers.
