Niyi Akinmolayan Expresses Curiousity Over Reason Nigerian Billionaires Don't Own Film Studios
Nigerian filmmaker, Niyi Akinmolayan, has asked an important question pertaining to the growth of the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood.
The renowned movie-maker, via his Instagram page, questioned why Nigerian billionaires have not invested in film studios, unlike their fellow billionaires in other country.
He noted that such move could enhance the public perception of their products, and also give them leverage over the society, in addition to their respective products.
Sharing an opinion from an individual, Akinmolayan stated that it could be that only Dangote and Adenuga have products that are worthy of such move.
He wrote:
"I wonder why popular Nigerian billionaires don’t own film studios like their counterparts in India, South Korea, etc. The impact they could have on public perception of their products, the access their films could leverage, and the influence they could wield over society is enormous. I’m genuinely curious why.
"Someone said it’s because, apart from Dangote and Adenuga the others don’t really produce anything they need films to position."
