‎"You Saw The Promotions For This Title For Months And Said Nothing" - Ik Ogbonna Slams CAN Over Threat To Ini Edo's Movie 'A Very Dirty Christmas'

By Oluwarantimi Oludase

Nollywood actor Ik Ogbonna, is backing his colleague Ini Edo, amid her ongoing back and forth with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), over her movie 'A Very Dirty Christmas.'

The Nigerian Voice recalls that CAN had previously expressed its disappointment with the title of Ini Edo's movie 'A Very Dirty Christmas,' stating that the movie title is insensitive to the festive and sacred period of Christmas, adding that it is both offensive and disrespectful to the Christian Faith.

Ini Edo, however, issued a press statement, addressing the concerns made by the religious body, while clarifying that the title of her movie had no ill intention, and had fulfilled all the regulatory conditions.

Surprisingly, CAN has not backed down on its stance against the movie, and recently threatened to take it down. In response, Ini Edo, in a viral livestream video had appealed to the Christian body, admitting that she would have changed the title if she was aware it would have been an issue.

Reacting to the whole issue, IK Ogbonna, via his Instagram page, expressed his disappointment with CAN, stressing how they were aware of the promotion stage of the title of the movie, and refused to make any comment.

He emphasized that the movie's title was approved by the Censors board which allowed them to proceed with other aspects. iK wondered how an issue with the title has suddenly arisen since the release of the movie, stressing that CAN is only speaking when progress has been made.

He wrote:
"TBH! I am deeply disappointed with CAN. You saw the promotions for this title for months and said nothing.

The movie title was officially approved by the Censors Board, and we moved forward in good faith.

Now that the film is out, showing nationwide and doing well, suddenly there’s an issue with the title.

How Christian is it to stay silent all along, then speak only when progress has been made?

This isn’t about conflict – it’s about fairness, consistency, and integrity."
