"Afrobeats Originality Has Dropped" - DJ Big N Blames Musicians And Music Executives
Popular Nigerian disc jockey, Nonso Temisan Ajufo, better known as DJ Big N, has blamed musicians and music executives for the lack of originality in the Afrobeats genre.
DJ Big N made this known while speaking in an interview with Echo Room, he stated that Afrobeats is at its worst position in the last twenty years.
According to him, the biggest contributors are the musicians and music executives, who are responsible for a decline in the genre.
He further noted that the originality has dropped, explaining that many singers tried to make their songs appeal to foreign audiences, however, the lack of originality in the songs, has led to a decline in foreign appeal.
He said:
"Afrobeats right now is at its worst position in the last 20 years. And everyone from musicians to music executives have a part to be blamed. The quality of music dropped. You have to understand that the quality of the product is important in every way.
“Also, the originality of the music dropped. Always understand that whatever you want to export has to be original, first and foremost. If you tried to export something else, it’s only a matter of time before you stopped getting demands. You can’t sell foreign genres to foreign audiences. We have to embrace our originality."
