"I Don't Like Being Labelled 'Queen of Afrobeats'" - Tiwa Savage Reveals
Popular Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, has revealed that she doesn't like being described as the "Queen of Afrobeats."
According to her, there are a lot of queens in the music industry, stressing that the tag makes her uncomfortable, and it doesn't really make sense to her.
She further emphasized that although, she appreciates being given such a great title, she isn't accepting it.
Speaking in a recent interview with Apple Music’s Ebro, she noted how being labelled the "Queen of Afrobeats" was mainly because she was one of the first female artistes' in Nigeria to breakthrough.
She said:
“Yeah, they call me the Queen of Afrobeats, but there are a lot of us that are Queens.
“Personally, I don’t like that tag, it’s uncomfortable because I feel like if I start accepting it, I need to be humble and secondly, it doesn’t make sense to me. So, I don’t [accept it]. But I appreciate it. It didn’t come up with it. I think it’s just because I was one of the first female artists in Nigeria to breakthrough. I do appreciate that. I’m not taking it for granted.”
