"Christianity Should Be Strictly Regulated" - Lawyer Stan Alieke Urges Nigerian Government To Curb Excesses Of Pastors
Popular Nigerian lawyer Stan Alieke has called on the government to regulate Christianity in Nigeria, citing concerns over unethical practices by some pastors..
Taking to his Instagram page, the Abuja-based lawyer, who identifies as a Christian, argued that it is high time religious activities were subjected to stricter oversight.
According to him, pastors and church leaders should not only be regulated by Christian bodies like the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) or the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), but also by the government. He cited questionable prophecies and miracles as key issues requiring intervention.
Alieke emphasized that the Bible advocates moderation in all things, yet many pastors employ "unscrupulous tactics" that bring disrepute to Christianity.
He wrote:
"I'm a Christian, proudly so but I think it's time Christianity should be strictly regulated.
Pastors should be strictly regulated not just by CAN or PFN but by the govn't. These prophecies or so-called miracles that most of them claim to perform should be regulated. All these shenanigans of some pastors pushing people down or dragging them so as to make them 'fall under anointing' & the victims in some cases sustaining grave injuries or giving false prophecies to persons so as to fraudulently extort money from the persons should be looked into. The Bible says that everything should be done in moderation, all these unscrupulous tactics employed by some pastors/prophets are bringing disrepute to Christendom."
