By Nigerian Standards, I Am Not Rich - Jide Kosoko Says
Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko, has stated that his popularity and years of experience in the movie industry has not made him rich.
Featuring on a recent episode of the Honest Bunch Podcast, Jide Kosoko stressed that despite his wealth of experience, spanning over 60 years in the movie industry, he cannot admit that he is rich by Nigerian standards.
“I have been in this [movie] industry for this long. I thank God that I can eat three square meals. But can I claim to be a rich man by Nigerian standards? No."
Additionally, the actor urged the government and lawmakers to look into more stringent punishments for those involved in piracy of movies in the country. He emphasized that the punishment is too lenient, and as a result, has led to the increase in movie piracy across the country.
“The punishment in the copyright law for piracy is still not strong enough as far as I am concerned. Somebody who has been pirating people’s works for years is a billionaire, so how much do you want to fine him?
“Fine him N500 million, and he will just bring it out of what he has sold. But if you attach a 20-year jail sentence to it with no option of a fine, people will refrain from piracy."
