"A Governor Can Only Be Removed By Impeachment" - Falz Reacts To Fubara's Suspension
Nigerian rapper, Folarin Falana, has reacted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's decision to suspend Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Joining a host of other Nigerians in reacting to the President's decision, Falz, via his X handle, stated that there is absolutely no law that gives the president the right to suspend a governor. He further explained that a governor is elected into office, and as such, can only be removed by impeachment.
Falz further questioned President Tinubu's decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers state by asking if there is actually a state of war, or breakdown of public order in the state.
Falz wrote on X:
“Rivers State, there is absolutely no law that allows a president to SUSPEND a governor. A Governor is elected into office and may only be removed by impeachment.
“Also, is Rivers state at war? Is there ‘actual breakdown of public order?’ Is there a threat to the existence of the federation?”
The Nigerian Voice recalls that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday, March 18, officially declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Deputy Governor for six months.
Similarly, members of the state house of assembly were also suspended for the same duration.
President Tinubu cited the lingering crisis in the state for the action.
He subsequently nominated Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as Administrator to take charge of the affairs of the state with immediate effect.
