Rapper, Illbliss Bemoans Loss Of Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid From The Rap Community

By Oluwarantimi Oludase

Veteran rapper Tobechukwu Ejiofor, popularly known as Illbliss, has touched on the loss of Afrobeats stars Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy from the rap community.

The rapper revealed that the three stars started as rappers before switching to singing, which has, however, favored them.

Illbliss made this known in an interview with Radio Now 95.3 FM, where he spoke on the popularity of rap music in Nigeria before Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy started switching to singing.

The rapper emphasized that hip-hop music is not popular and lucrative in Nigeria and the evidence is that only a few rappers like himself have made it from rap.

He said:
“We (Hip-Hop community) lost a lot of our soldiers; we lost Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido. Three of them were rappers. I guess they found the afrobeats vibe and it made them global stars.

“Hip-hop is a tough sell in Nigeria. Not everybody has been as fortunate as me or Vector, M.I., Reminisce, Olamide, and Phyno. It’s not a long list."
