Omah Lay Speaks On Dwindling Of The Afrobeats Genre
Afrobeats has been a huge topic of immense criticism for sometime now, ranging from Nigerian artistes like Burna Boy, Davido and Wizkid denouncing the genre to african artistes describing it as lacking in substance.
Weighing in on the recent criticism of Afrobeats is popular Nigerian singer, Omah Lay, who described afrobeats, as being at the risk of declining.
He described the genre as being jumped upon by many Nigerian and African artistes in order to get into the international audiences.
Omah Lay made this known on the Zach Sang Show, where he described afrobeats of being at the risk of declining, as many artistes who sing are now singing just for the money, instead of passion.
He said:
“There is too much money in Afrobeats. Afrobeats artists are just trying to grab the money,” he said.
“I believe people are messing Afrobeats up. I also believe it is becoming very commercial. Right now, I don’t believe Afrobeats is in safe hands.”
