2Baba Reveals Being Part Of Afrobeats Success, Advises Younger Artistes To Start Small
Popular veteran singer, Innocent Ujah Idibia, best known as 2Baba, has opened up on how the genre”Afrobeats" reached the level it has got to.
He stated that he and some other artistes played a pivotal role in ensuring that Afrobeats became a global genre to reckon with and this part of the reason for his unending relevance in the music industry.
Speaking in a recent interview withAFRIMMA, he advised younger artistes to keep pushing by starting from small places and gradually they would eventually sell out big arenas. Using Burna Boy as an example, he advised younger artistes to check out Burna Boy's story and see how he started from small places to selling out the Madison Square Garden.
He said;
“Burna Boy sells out Madison Square Garden and they [other artistes] think they are on the same level. And that’s unrealistic.
“He knows what he passed through before getting to the level he is, and you have to go through that process in full. Burna boy didn’t just wake up and sell out Madison Square Garden, it’s a process that took a long time.
“He started by touring small venues and he built a huge followership from there. And you see the results now. It’s the same process. We are part of the sacrificers; the instrumental process [laughs].
“But that doesn’t take anything away from the fact that I am still very much relevant. I’m still here making good music.”
