Nigerian stylist, Toyin Lawan has broken her silence on the immense criticism she was subjected to over her dress at the 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA).

The stylist took to social media to explain her reason for making sack dress for the AMVCA awards, she stated that she had already made her dress for the award ceremony, however, it had issues and there was no way she could wear it and with time not on her side, she had to quickly make something up in order not to miss the award ceremony.

She wrote; “Devil tried,
But he couldn’t stop me, Created this masterpiece within few hours today,

Main dress of over a month got broken,
But the King of Fashion 👑 in like a PHOENIX,
Always rising from the ashes and rising stronger
So we decided let’s serve MY SACK DRESS instead 🥰

What’s your take on this creative masterpiece.”

Despite this, many netizens bashed the fashion designer and stylist for making a dress out of sack, as they downplayed her questioned her styling skills for coming up with such ‘Tacky’ dress.

Toyin Lawan seems to be unfazed by the negative comments made on her dress, as she hit back at her trolls. She wrote;

AT THE BACK WHEN IT COMES TO FASHION ART ,
THEY REFUSED TO BE LIBERATED AND I REFUSE TO TO CONFORM TO THE SOCIETAL NORMS ,

YALL NEED TO UNDERSTAND I DIDNT LEARN FROM NIGERIA,

MY MOM GROOMED ME ,
BUT I WENT ABROAD TO GET MORE KNOWLEDGE ,
DONT EXPECT ME TO DO THINGS YOUR WAY ,
I DONT DESIGN FOR THE SOCIETY ,
