By Oluwarantimi Oludase

Popular Nigerian music star, Joeboy has shed light on the benefits that social media has afforded many artistes and people in general. The singer was recently interviewed by 3FM, where he elucidated on how various social media platforms has added impact to the music world.

The singer revealed that social media has helped bring many artistes up, as it is easier these days to post your music online and once it appeals to others, you would get a lot of views and likes and from there you can start pushing your career as an artiste, he said.

He said;
“Social media has been a game-changer for me and many other artists. It has allowed us to reach a global audience without necessarily relying on mainstream media, record labels, or gatekeepers. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok have become essential tools for promoting our music and engaging with fans in real-time."

“Now all of a sudden you can just get into the industry by just posting a cover or a song of yourself singing randomly on your bed and next thing is it is getting millions of views and everybody wants to work with you and connect with you,”

Furthermore, the singer revealed that apps like Instagram, TikTok which provides live services has helped to breach the distance between Netizens and their popular artistes, as the artistes are able to bond and connect with their fans easily.

However, the artiste referenced the fact that every thing has its advantage and disadvantage. He revealed that social media has led many astray and put others under unnecessary pressure in order to meet up with standards .

He said;
“I can take a picture in front of a jet right now, I won’t say a word, and the next thing bloggers will say Joeboy has bought a jet, and people who do not know me privately will believe it, and if do not see anything they will take it as fact.”
