Mob described as Ambon boys in Indonesia reportedly bedeviled a Nigerian man identified as George Onyekachi Onuoha at Tangerang last Sunday, 9 July, 2023.

Noting the death of George Onyekachi, it has unearthed the unlawful killing of several other Nigerians in Indonesia.

The report about the death of George was disclosed by SaharaReporters who learnt this from a Nigerian, an eyewitness of the incident. Besides that, the President of Nigerian community in Indonesia, Chief Omeogo Okolie confirmed the terrifying incident.

Moreover, the eyewitness who spoke to SahaReporters has in a statement testified to the recurrence of the unlawful attacks and killing of Nigerians in the country by the locals. He bemoaned the soft attention given to the situation by officials in the embassy.

His words read;
“This happened on Sunday morning in Indonesia, our brother, a Nigerian man was mobbed and killed by the locals. This is not the first time. It keeps happening and the embassy is useless. They do nothing,”

Chief Omeogo Okolie, the President of the Nigerian community in Indonesia who confirmed the incident gives more details about the Death of George. According to him, the killing of Georgia was not a mistaken identity; it was targeted.

The cause or reason for the attack on George is yet to be revealed. However, the president confirmed that police have commenced investigation over the matter and the embassy is waiting for official report from the police.

His words read partly;
“We can confirm the sudden death of our brother, Late Mr George Onyekachi Onuoha, (Mazi) who was murdered by suspected Ambon boys at Tangerang yesterday, 9th July 2023.

“Preliminary information on the cause of his death is NOT a case of missed identity, it shows he was a target, but police have officially commenced investigation, there is no arrest so far, also the embassy is waiting for the official report from the police on this which we hope will come soon, but we trust soon all those involved both insider and outsider will be arrested and the full update on that will also be made public for Nigerians to know.

“So far, we plead with everyone to remain calm, law abiding, and careful as we wait patiently. Meanwhile, the body of our brother has been deposited to the mortuary at the moment.”

Moreover, in respect to this, Arinze Igweike and Leohand Lyeanyi were the Nigerian nationals who have died in the same manner in Indonesia a few years back.

In March this year, a Nigerian national, Leohand Lyeanyi, was murdered under a controversial circumstance while he was arrested by the Indian police in Delhi.

In March 2022, a Nigerian national, Arinze Igweike was beaten to death by Indonesian immigration.

Igweike, from Onitsha, Anambra State was said to have been arrested by the Indonesian immigration along with two other Nigerians from the Southwest in Jakarta.

They were said to have been beaten thoroughly with Igweike unable to survive the assault.
