Nigerian Singer, 5 Others Sentenced To 2 Years Imprisonment For Impersonation and Internet Fraud
Crown Uzama, an up-and-coming singer and five other actors are convicted and sentenced to two years Imprisonment by a court in Kaduna for criminality and impersonation.
Upon receipt of information about the criminality perpetrated by Uzama and his accomplices, the Economic Financial Crime Commission, EFFC of Kaduna command apprehended them and took them to the court.
Uzama (aka Shalli Popi and Miller Maxwell) was convicted alongside Joel Kator (aka Alfred Hudson), Abdul-Azeez Suleiman Temidayo (aka Miss Katie Official), Favour Chidiogo Emmanuel (aka Kate Banks), John Joseph (aka Avail Hollywood), and Bethel Makuochukwu ( aka Violetqmartinez). Makuochukwu had two weeks earlier been convicted for money laundering.
The investigation confirmed that the actors impersonated foreign nationals and used false identities to defraud unsuspecting victims.
This crime is contrary to Kaduna Section 142 (1), 57, and 308 of the Kaduna Penal Code Law, 2017, and punishable under Section 309 of the same Law.
Justice Isiaka who presided over the case convicted them and sentenced them to 2 years Imprisonment after they had pleded guilty. Besides the ruling, the court also ordered the forfeiture of all the electronic gadgets possessed by convicted criminals.
