Lawyers Have Failed to Educate Artistes About Contract With Record Labels…Sound Sultan

Over time, reports have continued to emanate from some artistes over the way their record labels give them unfair treatment all because of the contract they signed with them.

Some artistes believe that being signed to a record label is another form of slavery which will not give them the opportunity of doing their songs the way they want and as such decide to opt out and establish their own outfit.

Such a news is rampant in Nigeria and Naija Ninja boss, Sound Sultan, believes that the record label should not be blamed rather the artiste and whoever was brought to go through the contract before it was signed.

According to him, “When you talk about artistes entering into contracts that they don't understand, you have no one else to blames than you and your lawyers and whoever is in charge of your perusal of your contract. Having said that, contracts are not mearnt to be fair if you look at it because the point in time when you signed that contract you might be at the rock bottom and you won't even envisage that you tend to be big time and command a lot of figures, so you might be at the mercy of whoever is signing you. So for me, I feel artistes should embrace from the point set what will happen in the future, it all depend on who is dealing with who.”
