How Timi Dakolo Sold Plantain Chips Like Timaya To Survive

Many Nigerian celebs have told different stories of how they struggled to attain fame. Some of them have also told how they once sold on the streets when things were very hard for them, but all these stories are just to inspire those looking up to them.

One of the stars to have told his grass to grace story is the debut and only winner of West African Idol, Timi Dakolo, who said he took up menial jobs in the past to support himself and his grandmother, who he grew to know as his mother.

The singer explained that though he was born in Ghana, he was never brought to Nigeria, Port Harcourt to be precise, but his relatives in Ghana.

He told NET, “I grew up with my grandmother in Port Harcourt. I grew up to know that my grandmother was my only parent. She used to have a shop at Mile 3 market in Port Harcourt. After school, I would join her at the market.

“I hawked pure water, plantain chips etc. I did a lot of hustling as a young boy. But the truth is, what I went through while growing up made me who I am today. The experience taught me that hardwork pays.”

It would be recalled that popular Bayelsa State-born singer, Timaya, also claimed he sold plantain while growing up. He about this in one of his songs.
