Do you remember Josephine Ugwu, the cleaner at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, who returned about N12 million she found while cleaning the airport? Well, her gesture has continued to open doors for her.

On Monday, the Lagos State House of Assembly held a special session to honour and reward the woman, who Nigerians have been urged to emulate.

She used the occasion to narrate her experience to the members of Assembly.

Deputy Speaker, Kolawole Taiwo, who presided over the session, encouraged her to continue with her selfless and righteous deeds. Taiwo presented a commendation letter and undisclosed cash to Ugwu.

"For her honesty and patriotism for returning the N12 million on January 23, we find her worthy of honour.

“Your conduct has positively affected the image of Nigeria internationally. It is an act worthy of emulation; this is why we decided to hold a special parliamentary session to celebrate your honesty, integrity, uprightness, sincerity, truthfulness and patriotism," Taiwo said.

Other members of the house also appealed that the lady should be recommended for government appointment and that an institution or monument should be named after her.

The excited Ugwu, while giving her acceptance speech, said she was only doing her duty as a concerned person and her upbringing played a pivotal role in her life and actions.

"I never expected that I will be honoured to stand before this Assembly not to talk of being recognised and honoured by this institution. I was just doing my duty and following the rules of the organisation I am working for and also living according to the training I received from my parents who brought me up.

"I also want to prove to the world that Nigeria is a good country with people of integrity unlike the wrong impression given about the country," she said.
