Jonathan Promises To Move Entertainment Industry To Culture & Tourism
Nigerian music legend, Sir Victor Uwaifo, requested from President Goodluck Jonathan to set up a ministry for the entertainment industry in Nigeria. He said the industry deserves to be under a separate ministry rather than the Ministry of Information it is presently under.
Uwaifo made the call on Sunday during an interactive session the President had with showbiz practitioners in Nigeria. The meeting took place at the Convention Centre of Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Pleading, the veteran musician said, “Mr President, we appreciate you, and on behalf of my colleagues, please, give us a ministry of entertainment where one of us can also be a minister,”
Meanwhile, those in the entertainment industry in Nigeria applauded Uwaifo's request. Responding, the President said he would look into the matter, but promised that if re-elected for a second term, he would move the entertainment industry to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as requested by another participant, Niyi Johnson.
