My Dressing Was About my Culture and Not Foreign...Belindah Effah
The just concluded African Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) was not all about awards alone but the parades of various fashion outfits that were either breath taking or just out of the ordinary.
While many were being appreciated on the red carpet over their dress style, some were attacked on the various social media platforms on the kind of outfit they wore to the event.
Few of the celebs in the tongue lashing have come out to defend themselves and Nollywood actress, Belinda Effah, is not being spared as she has finally revealed that she intentionally dressed the way she did to promote her culture.
The actress disclosed to kemifilani that many females spend much money on buying foreign hair than going on their natural hair and it is time for the people to always respect and sell their culture to others.
According to her “It was a well thought out plan. I am an African root, a proud Calabar girl who loves her culture, so i decided to flaunt and promote my pride. I grew up with my hair. When I was a little girl, my mother will thread my hair and when she finishes, she will nod her hair in satisfaction and say to me, you look beautiful. Ladies of today however focus more on Brazilian hair and it shouldn't be all about Brazilian, human hair or what have you, let's go back to our roots. There was a time these hairs didn't exist except our natural hair and we were surviving so it shouldn't always be all about these weavons and all. We need to start importing and selling our own culture out there.”
