My Husband Has Not Physically Assaulted Me Before—Mercy Aigbe
Domestic violence against women has been an issue that has attracted attention of several civil society groups in Nigeria. The menace has been on the increase lately, which led to the Lagos State Government to take tough stand on the matter in punishing offenders.
In the past, some celebs have blamed their crashed marriages on domestic violence. Examples are Monalisa Chinda, Chika Ike, and many others.
But for Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe-Gentry, her husband, Lanre Gentry, has never raised his hands on her since she got married to him.
She described the man as a pillar of support to the family and her career, which she said has made her love for him stronger.
The actress-cum-producer, speaking on how her husband reacts to her romantic scenes in movies, said the man met her as an actress who interprets her roles very well and does not expect him to feel bad about it.
“My husband knows I am a professional when it comes to acting; he met me as an actress and knows I give my best when it comes to my job. Maybe he gets jealous and he doesn't show it, but I haven't done anything that he wouldn't like. He has been supportive of my career so far,” she said.
She also expressed her wish to be noticed by Don Jazzy, saying she wants to explore her singing talent.
