Another Veteran Nigerian Footballer Dies

Death is one inevitable debt that every human must pay. However, the loss of a loved one still remains painful despite knowing that it must happen.

Not too long ago, the football industry in Nigeria was thrown into mourning when a legend of the game in the country died at a Lagos hospital.

Now, another great Nigerian footballer, Moses Otolorin, has died. The deceased played alongside ex-Nigerian international, Segun Odegbami, at the IICC Shooting Stars of Ibadan, Oyo State. He played in the striking position and was part of the 1976 heroic squad.

Late Otolorin passed on recently and was said to have died of renal failure in Ilorin, where he had been living since his active playing days.

He is now the sixth member of the 1976 heroic Shooting Stars squad that have died. He was known for his powerful shots and long throw ins. He scored more than half of the 15 goals Shooting Stars scored when they won the African Winners Cup in 1976.

Reacting to his death, his former teammate, Segun Odegbami, described him as a fantastic footballer. “He was my team mate in IICC, my friend and strike partner. I knew he was sick and we even spoke last week but his death is a big tragedy for us. This is a big reminder to us all that as we grow older, we'll surely go someday.”
