Young Artistes Lack Mentoring—Reggae Maestro, Orits Wiliki
Veteran Nigerian musician, Orits Wiliki, has stated that reggae music is not dead because the young artistes are doing the genre of music in the name of hip hop. He noted that if the late king of reggae, Bob Marley, was alive, he (Bob Marley) would have modernized his reggae style to a better one.
Speaking with Nollywoodgists.com, the respected singer said things are changing with time and as such, people move with the trend.
He also pointed out that young artistes are making waves because of the kind of music that is presently in vogue, but observed that they lack is mentoring.
“What the youths lack these days is mentoring. During our time, we had people we looked up to and this helped influence our thinking and things we say or sing about. But these days, a youth will own a computer and the next thing he prepares a beat and sings anything as long as the beat is danceable.
“With that, they do not to last in the industry because they are not well equipped with the right tools that can sustain them,” he noted.
He stated that for a singer to do well, he should be able to play an instrument, which will help enhance good song writing, but that failure to do so makes such fellow be a flash in the pan.
Furthermore, the reggae maestro hipped praises on Classic FM 97.3, a radio he said has tried to always rekindle old tunes to the older generations, who value good music.
