ANTP Saga: Court’s Ruling An Injustice To Me—Dele Odule

Some days ago, the almost four-year leadership tussle of the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) between Comrade Victor Ashaolu and Dele Odule was put to rest by an Ibadan court.

Justice Bolaji Yusuf of the Federal High Court 3, Ring Road, Ibadan, Oyo State declared Comrade Ashaolu as the authentic and duly elected President of the association.

The leadership tussle started after controversies trailed the February 10, 2010 election held at Ace Hall, Yemetu, Ibadan, when the poll was inconclusive.

Another election was held in Ilorin on September 22, 2010, which was boycotted by Dele Odule and Comrade Ashaolu emerged winner. Ashaolu claimed seven member states of the association were duly represented at the second election, which produced him as winner.

This was challenged by Mr Odule, who claimed Ashaolu was not duly elected as claimed. Since then, it has been a dirty fight between the two. While the leadership tussle was going on, the court ruled that status quo been maintained, which made Prince Jide Kosoko to continue leading ANTP despite the expiration of his tenure since 2010.

Reacting to the ruling last week, Dele Odule lamented to Nollywoodgists.com that the court did not pronounce true justice in the matter. He described the judgement as an 'injustice', lamenting further that until Ashaolu duly contest against him in a free and fair election, he will not regard him as his leader.

He said, “You can never uphold an election that never held. I don't see why the court can uphold such. Tell Ashaolu to tell the public if those that suppose to hold the election did. Let him tell the world those who participated in the election. That is my view on the judgement.”

However, some aggrieved members of ANTP have established another association call Theatre Arts and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN). The group was reportedly formed on Sunday at Adebayo Salami's (Oga Bello) Ikorodu residence.
