AMVCA Calls For Entries For 2014 Edition

Organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA); MultiChoice and AfricaMagic, have announced preparations for its second edition following the huge success the first edition of the awards made in 2013.

In their efforts to stage another successful edition of the glamorous event, the organisers have now called for entries from qualified Pan African filmmakers, actors and technicians in the continent's film and television industry.

The 2014 edition of the awards will have a total of 28 awards in 26 categories ranging from acting and directing to scriptwriting and cinematography with nine of those categories being voted for by the viewers.

The editing, make-up, sound and lighting categories are included, while the Industry Merit Award and the Trailblazer of The Year Award categories, which were respectively won by Olu Jacobs and Ivie Okujaiye, will also be included in the 2014 edition.

According to the MD, M-Net Africa, Biola Alabi, “It is a pleasure for us to announce the launch of the second AMVCA after the resounding success of the first one. AfricaMagic is committed to recognising, nurturing and rewarding the excellence and artistry that exist within our movie and television industry.”

She further added that, “The number of entries and the significant response we received last year is a proof that the AMVCAs are contributing by recognizing, acknowledging and rewarding the hard work that goes into this ever-expanding industry.”

On the part of the CEO of MultiChoice Africa, Nico Meyer, “MultiChoice Africa is delighted to be a partner in the second edition of the AfricaMagic Viewer's Choice Awards. Our association with the awards is a show of our commitment to growing Africa's talent, the entertainment and movie industry with quality local programming allowing Africans to take ownership of their achievements. We are certain that once again this year, the continent will celebrate its rising stars. We look forward to the emergence of powerful stories and Africa's unsung heroes.”

The entry has already started and will end on Friday, October 18, 2013 at 7pm (CAT) and it's free.
The inaugural edition was held on March 9, 2013 in Lagos. Nigerian OC Ukeje and Ghanaian Jackie Appiah won The Best Actor and Best Actress in a Drama respectively.
