Nigeria is acknowledged as the world's third largest film producing nation but it is conspicuously absent from the list of top 20 quality producing nations. Problems of regulation, structure and monitoring as well as piracy, mediocrity and lack of focus has motivated the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Information and Communications, which oversees the industry, to convene a stakeholders' forum.

According to Charles Ojugbana, the forum convenor, the Film Forum is expected to contribute to uplifting the quality of film production in Nigeria. The event will be held from 18 to 20 November at the Tinapa Business Resort, Calabar.

“Issues to be considered at the Forum include government's provision of an enabling environment for the operators; the Motion Picture Practitioners' Council of Nigeria (MOPICON) Bill, which is expected to be presented to the National Assembly soon as well as the harmonization of various guilds,” says Ojugbana. “These discussions will dovetail into the production of a blue-print, which will guide the industry to becoming the engine room of the Nigerian economy.”

The Minister of Information and Communication John Ogar Odey, is expected to deliver a keynote address at the Forum , while prominent actors and actresses, industry veterans as well as directors, producers and other industry stakeholders will participate and make presentations.
