U.K. VISAS THREATEN TRIP
UNLESS the Honourable Minister of Information and Communications, Mr. John Odey, steps in, more than half of the Nigerian delegation including some journalists as well as top Nollywood actors and actresses may not be able to make it to the oncoming Nigerian In the Movies, NIM International Road Shows billed to hold in Central London from October 18 through 20.
This hitch may be occasioned by the inability of the United Kingdom High Commission Consular offices to issue travelling visas to more than half of the over 40-man delegation. A source close to the National Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB, facilitators of the event, revealed that the visa matter has become something of urgency and "thus our director general had appealed to the
Honourable Minister (Mr. Odey) to intervene." Mba on his part, The Guardian learnt wrote a letter of appeal both to the Consular Officers in Lagos and Abuja High Commissions where some of the delegates applied, to assist in getting the visas before the delegates depart on Monday.
The issue is further compounded with today and tomorrow being declared as public holidays. "Well, there is hope as the Honourable Minister has promised to intervene on the matter," the source submitted. Meanwhile, the delegates are due to depart on Monday.
