2008 AFRICAN MOVIE ACADEMY AWARDS CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Peace Anyiam-Fiberesima, executive director of the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), announced a call for film submissions. The deadline to submit African and International films for the 2008 AMAA is December 30, 2007. Short, feature and documentary films are welcomed entries.


Filmmakers can mail in film submissions with a cover note indicating the award category to the AMAA headquarters, 10A, Oba Ladejobi Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.

Eligible submissions must be created by an African filmmaker and production crew between November 30, 2006 and December 1, 2007. Award winners are announced on Saturday, April 26, 2008 as part of the 2008 AFRICA MOVIE ACADEMY AWARDS.

Ms. Anyiam-Fiberesima described the AWARDS , “AMAA is a pan-African affair. Every year more and more African countries send entries. Before long, I believe that Africa and the African Diaspora will come together to honor the rich tradition of African storytelling. AMAA inspires excellence with days of networking, and one night of awards.”

During the awards ceremony, winners will receive honors for the following 22 categories of filmmaking: Best Picture; Best Director; Best Actor in Lead Role; Best Actor in Supporting Role; Best Actress in Lead Role; Best Actress in Supporting Role; Best Upcoming; Original Screenplay; Best Cinematography; Best Sound; Best Edit; Best Performance by a Child; Best Indigenous Film; Best Achievement in Make-Up; Best Marketer/Distributor; Best Visual Effect; Most Original Sound Track; Best Achievement in Costume; Best Documentary Feature; Veteran Award; Posthumous Award; and Outstanding Contribution Award., Best African film in the diaspora

In the past, Saturday night of the award has attracted stars from Nollywood to Hollywood. Vivica A. Fox, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Danny Glover, and Louis Gosset Junior have lined the red carpet. In addition to the stars, sponsors UNITED BANK FOR AFRICA (UBA) CELTEL , KIA/DANA MOTORS and the Niger Delta State of BAYELSA have helped make the evening first rate.
