Governor Amaechi awards scholarship to Nigerian idol winner
Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi has assured Mercy Chinwo, the winner of Nigerian Idol season 2, of the state government's support towards her education and music career. Governor Amaechi said this when the Nigerian Idol winner paid him a courtesy visit at the government house in Port Harcourt last week.
Amaechi, who described Mercy, an indigene of Rivers state as a good ambassador of the state, promised that the state government will ensure that she completes her tertiary education within or outside the country. The governor said the scholarship would ensure that she furthers her education and strengthens her music career. He advised her not to compromise on her education and also urged her not to be carried away by the euphoria of her recent success, but to focus on her future prospects.

In her remarks, the Nigerian Idol 2012 winner expressed her gratitude to the government and people of Rivers State for the support and encouragement she got during the competition. Mercy explained that her 'success demonstrates that Rivers youths are blessed with huge talents and potentials.' She called on youths in the state to shun violence and pursue their goals.
